World Refugee Forum: impact on traffic and presence of the Swiss Air Force

04.12.2023

Geneva will host the World Refugee Forum 2023 from 13 to 15 December 2023. Co-organised by Switzerland and the UNHCR, as well as six other countries, the event will take place at Palexpo. It will also include an advanced day for parallel events on 12 December.

Several heads of state and ministers are expected in Geneva, most of whom will be passing through Geneva airport. From Tuesday 12 to Saturday 16 December, scheduled and charter flights, as well as commercial flights, will operate normally. However, non-commercial flights will be suspended during this period.

Air Force presence

From December 11 until the end of the Forum, the Swiss Air Force will be present on the tarmac and in the vicinity with a specialised detachment and several helicopters which will be carrying out various prevention and surveillance operations in the airspace around Geneva during the Forum. These operations are likely to include night flights.
