All set for summer 2025!

19.06.2025

Geneva Airport will be busy this summer, almost as much as in the summer of 2024. According to forecasts, passenger traffic in July and August will be on the same scale as in 2024, with 1.68 million passengers in July and 1.65 million passengers in August. This summer, 125 destinations from Geneva will be offered by airlines. Geneva Airport, easyJet, SWISS, Skyguide, Swissport, dnata and all the players at the hub are mobilised, ready to welcome passengers and offer them a full range of services this summer.

For summer 2025, the offering available from Geneva is considerable: 125 destinations operated by 48 airlines are available to passengers, not only to Europe but also beyond, notably to North America, the Middle East and Africa. In addition to the new European routes offered by easyJet and SWISS and Belgrade (Air Serbia) and Tirana (Air Albania), Geneva welcomes China Eastern with the Shanghai route, the arrival of the new airline FlyNas with flights from Riyadh, the return of Gulf Air to Bahrain and increased frequencies to Beijing (Air China) and Addis Ababa (Ethiopian).

Busy European skies
Ahead of this deadline, preparatory work has been carried out with all the players on the platform: reinforcement of teams, coordination with all agents, reminder of procedures, assurance with partners that teams are available according to traffic forecasts, etc. Eurocontrol is already forecasting an increase of more than 4% in traffic in European skies this summer, with even greater intensity in the south-west (Spain, Portugal) and south-east (Greece, Balkans) of Europe.

Collectively, every effort is being made to offer passengers a stable air service, with particular attention being paid to flights in the first wave (between 6am and 8am), which have a major impact on the whole day. From 23 June, check-in and security areas will open earlier than usual, from 4am.

The aim of this measure is to allow the first passengers to drop off their baggage and/or pass through security controls earlier to facilitate the processing of the first flights of the day.

easyJet: 80 routes including 4 new destinations
Among the more than 80 routes available this summer, easyJet is offering 4 new destinations: Oslo (Norway), Tbilisi (Georgia), Cairo (Egypt) and Marsa Alam (Egypt). The airline's Swiss customers can also take advantage of the easyJet holidays offer for city breaks or seaside holidays at very attractive prices, including a choice of over 5,000 hotels, many of them 4- and 5-star establishments.

As a local player, easyJet is fully committed to delivering flight schedules with the best possible connectivity and operational efficiency, considering the challenges posed by worsening air traffic control delays for many different reasons (weather, traffic overload, etc.).

In 2024, easyJet reduced the number of take-offs after 10pm by 61% compared to the previous year. In 2025, and to date, easyJet continues this positive trend. To further improve its operational resilience, particularly during the peak summer season, easyJet Switzerland has hired a significant number of additional staff for 2025, namely 120 cabin crew and 46 new co-pilots, which will allow for greater flexibility in terms of flight crews.

Jean-Marc Thevenaz, Executive Director of easyJet Switzerland: "As the leading player on the Geneva hub, our aim this summer is once again to offer the best range of destinations, while placing quality of service at the heart of our operations: crews trained to ensure the safety and friendly welcome of our customers, and resources designed to ensure that operations run as smoothly as possible.

SWISS ready to welcome its passengers this summer
"As we do every summer, we are doing our utmost to support our passengers in their travel plans, with a particular focus on service quality. We have taken a series of targeted measures to maintain the stability of our operations in a sometimes-tense operating environment. Our teams are fully mobilized to meet our customers' expectations throughout the summer season. Romain Vetter, SWISS Director for French-speaking Switzerland.

This summer, SWISS will be offering up to 254 weekly flights from Geneva, covering 34 European destinations, in addition to the destination of long-haul flights from New York. The most popular destinations are Greece, Portugal and Spain. The trend in bookings is very positive. The company's priority is to offer our passengers a worry-free travel experience to suit all tastes.

With passenger numbers expected to rise sharply, SWISS is advising its customers to plan ahead to ensure a seamless experience, by registering for Travel ID: a unique identifier providing easy access to all the Lufthansa Group's digital services, with personalized, real-time information.

SWISS also offers a baggage collection, check-in and delivery service in partnership with AirPortr. On departure from Switzerland, baggage is collected from the address of your choice and checked in for you. On your return, it is delivered directly to your home or hotel.

Skyguide: weather prediction tool and reinforcements
Skyguide has implemented several operational measures to help reduce delays and ensure the safety of all airspace users during the summer months. Staffing levels at the Geneva air traffic control center have been increased by one additional operational position every afternoon for the duration of the summer.

Skyguide is working with MeteoSwiss on a new weather prediction tool, particularly for thunderstorms, to refine the application of weather-related capacity restrictions. This system is currently being used as a complement to existing tools and will become fully operational from 2026. Among other things, this measure is Skyguide's response to the increasing frequency and violence of summer thunderstorms.

Despite these constraints, Skyguide remains fully mobilized alongside Geneva Airport and all its partners in the aviation chain to ensure that traffic is managed as safely and smoothly as possible during this busy period.

Swissport Geneva strengthens its teams for the summer season
In anticipation of the heavy traffic expected over the summer, Swissport Genève, the majority ground handling company at Geneva Airport, has put in place a reinforced system to guarantee the quality and fluidity of its ground operations. To cope with peaks in activity, Swissport has reinforced its check-in and baggage sorting teams. These reinforcements will optimise ground operations and reflect Swissport's commitment to offering a reliable and efficient service to its partner airlines and their passengers.

Swissport Geneva would like to remind passengers of a few good practices to make their holiday departure easier. It is advisable to arrive at the airport sufficiently early, to check the baggage instructions, particularly those concerning prohibited items, and to label baggage with your contact details. Depending on the airline, online check-in can be available up to 24 hours before departure, saving time at the airport.

dnata Geneva ready for the peak summer season
With the summer season approaching and passenger traffic set to increase, dnata Geneva is fully mobilised to meet the expected growth in passenger numbers. Building on its commitment to service quality and operational efficiency, dnata is delighted to strengthen its presence at Geneva Airport as a leading provider of airport services.
