Traveling with a Pet

Dogs, cats and small domestic animals can travel by air under certain conditions.

Before departure, remember to check with your airline:

• Whether your pet is allowed in the cabin or must travel in the hold
• The size and type of crate or carrier allowed
• Booking conditions (often required in advance)
• Any applicable fees

Certain categories of animals are usually not allowed on commercial flights, or only under specific procedures:

• Reptiles
• Birds
• Exotic or protected species
• Animals that are too young (depending on airline minimum age requirements)

If in doubt, contact your airline or a specialized transport agent before booking.

When your pet travels abroad, documents are always required. Without them, your animal may be held by veterinary authorities upon arrival.

Depending on your destination, authorities may require:

• A pet passport
• A microchip
• Up-to-date vaccinations (especially rabies)
• A veterinary certificate
