Border Control

Depending on your situation, you can go through in two ways:

Automated control
You can use it if you meet the following conditions:

• Biometric passport (ID cards are not accepted)
• 18 years or older at departure
• 12 years or older at arrival

How it works:

• Place your passport on the reader
• Enter the booth
• Look at the camera for facial recognition
• If the gate opens, you may proceed

Staffed counter
If you do not meet the conditions or prefer it, you can always use a traditional counter with an officer.

Since autumn 2025, travelers from third countries are subject to the European Entry/Exit System (EES).

Entering the Schengen area:

• With a biometric passport: you can use a self-service kiosk (assistance available)
• With a non-biometric passport or if under 12: you must go to a staffed counter

Recorded data includes your identity, travel document, as well as a photo and biometric data.

Exiting the Schengen area:
Third-country travelers must go through standard counters.

⚠️ The purpose of the EES is to reliably record entries and exits from the Schengen area. It is a European standard.

When traveling with a minor, specific rules may apply depending on the situation.

In general:

• The child must always have a valid identity document
• Parental authorization may be required in certain cases
• Additional checks may be carried out
