More passengers but fewer flights

Over the whole of 2025, Genève Aéroport welcomed 17,848,370* passengers, up 0.29% compared to 2024 (17,796,333 passengers). The number of passengers increased slightly while at the same time the number of movements decreased. In 2025, Genève Aéroport recorded 177,288 aircraft movements, i.e . -1.02% compared to 2024 (179,107 movements).

The slowdown in movements in relation to passenger growth has already been observed in 2024. The explanations for this phenomenon are the use of larger aircraft, an increase in load factor and a financial policy on the part of Genève Aéroport encouraging airlines to increase the occupancy rate per aircraft. In 2025, the seat occupancy rate exceeded 76.5%.

Compared to 2019, the year before Covid, the number of passengers is 0.44% lower and the number of aircraft movements is down 4.71%. As a reminder, in 2019, Genève Aéroport recorded 17,926,625 passengers and 186,044 movements.

Service to Genève Aéroport, which had 146 direct connections in 2024, will increase to 149 destinations in 2025, including an additional intercontinental route, Shanghai, operated by China Eastern since 16 June 2025.

The market shares of the top ten airlines for the past year are as follows: easyJet (46.0%), SWISS (12.4%), British Airways (4.4%), Air France (3.2%), Iberia (2.9%), KLM Royal Dutch Airlines (2.5%), TAP Portugal (2.0%), Brussels Airlines (1.9%), Emirates (1.8%) and Turkish Airlines (1.7%).

Latest generation aircraft: success of an incentive policy

For several years, through financial incentives, Genève Aéroport has been encouraging airlines to favour the latest generation of aircraft – known as class 5 – These aircraft, which are less noisy and less fuel-intensive, accounted for 34.04% of airliner and charter aircraft movements in 2025 (31.85% in 2024).

Another point of attention: in 2025, movements between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m., all categories combined, including medical flights, were 9,514, or 5.37% of flights (5.56% of flights in 2023 and 5.52% in 2024).

Noise quota system: further reduction in take-offs after 10 p.m.

In order to reduce night flights and in particular late take-offs after 10 p.m., Genève Aéroport has designed and implemented a system of dissuasive charges that came into force on 1 January 2025.

Discussed with all the airlines concerned by evening flights, this program was tested during 2024 with very concrete results. The number of take-offs after 10 p.m. was down 36.2% compared to 2023. In 2025, the formal implementation of this new system has led to a further 24.6% reduction in takeoffs after 10 p.m.

Freight: High Level

The year 2025 highlights a high level of air freight. Despite the great economic uncertainties and the impact of US customs duties, the annual tonnage of freight handled at Genève Aéroport amounted to 94,337 tonnes, compared to 90,696 tonnes in 2024. This cargo volume is the second highest result in the airport's history. It illustrates the resilience of the regional economic fabric. Also adding up postal freight, 96,047 tonnes were handled in Geneva.

The 2025 annual report including the financial statements and the sustainability report will be made public on March 24, 2026.
