From 31 October 2008, Uzbekistan Airways is adding Geneva to its flight network. So for the first time, a direct flight is available between Switzerland and the capital of Uzbekistan. The Geneva-Tashkent route is of major importance for tourism, which is burgeoning in Central Asia, and also for the steadily-growing business relationships between Switzerland and Uzbekistan.
The Geneva connection will be provided on Fridays by a triangular flight with an outbound/inbound stopover in alternate weeks in Milan-Malpensa. Flights will be operated by an Airbus A310 configured in three classes: 12 seats in First, 30 in Business and 150 in economy.
Uzbekistan Airways also flies to many European destinations, e.g. Athens, Istanbul, London, Rome, Moscow and St. Petersburg, and across the Atlantic to New York. The airline also has many flights to Asian countries.
Twelve Uzbek airports are connected to Tashkent by internal flights, to provide connections with the airline’s international hub.
The Uzbekistan Airways fleet currently consists of four Boeing 767-300ERs, three Airbus A310s, three RJ-85s and two Ilyushin 114s. As part of a renewal of its fleet, the airline has ordered two Boeing 787 "Dreamliners" and six Airbus A320s.
