As of 23 June 2021, the French sector welcomes back passengers as it resumes normal duty. Passengers will find the check-in, security and boarding gates unchanged, as well as the usual shops and services.
Since the beginning of December 2020, the Franco-Swiss Mixed Commission* had authorised a temporary suspension of the commercial operation of the sector dedicated to traffic to and from France. Baggage check-in, security checks and flight boarding were therefore carried out in the international flights area of the airport. The temporary shutdown of the French sector was part of operational economy measures. Genève Aéroport has been facing a significant drop in traffic for several months following the COVID-19 health crisis. With the resumption of summer 2021, a marked growth in traffic is expected.
*The Franco-Swiss Joint Committee is made up of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), the Federal Office of Civil Aviation (FOCA), the Prefecture of Ain and the Swiss and French customs authorities..
