Geneva International Airport commits to public transport!

When its Federal concession was renewed in 2001, Geneva International Airport undertook that the proportion of those travelling to the airport by public transport - staff of the authorities and companies established on its site or passengers alike - would rise to 45% in 2020, as against about 20% at present.

Indeed, given the expected increase in passenger traffic, which will automatically be accompanied by a rise in the number of jobs at the airport, there can be no question of allowing car traffic to the airport to develop in the same proportion. The trend must therefore be reversed as soon as possible.

To do this, Geneva International Airport is introducing as of 28 March 2004 an incentive scheme whereby, initially, all staff on the airport site will be offered a UNIRESO® season ticket at a very attractive price that is lower than the rates of the airport car park. In addition, because of the irregular hours worked by employees who start very early or leave very late, special shuttle buses (NPA) reserved for them will be introduced from 28 March. Finally, the UNIRESO® season ticket also includes the Mobility service that enables holders to rent a car very cheaply.

These services are being financed by a reasonable increase in the charges for the season tickets for staff car parks on the airport site, which are well below the charges applied elsewhere in Geneva.

At a later date, Geneva International Airport will offer air passengers special rates for the use of public transport, under arrangements that have still to be defined.

Geneva International Airport intends to contribute in this way to the use of public transport and to the reduction of air pollution.
