East Wing Tests: Genève Aéroport is Looking for Volunteers

08.10.2021

Work in the East Wing is finished! The new long-haul flight building will open on 14 December 2021. Before then, Genève Aéroport is set to undertake a number of passenger experience tests. The goal is to ensure that, upon opening, all the airport facilities are operating correctly in their new working environment. To do this, they are looking for over 1000 volunteers ready to play the role of passengers.

East Wing, a building for long-haul flights

The East Wing building has been built using glass and steel with an industrial design. It has impressive dimensions: with a face inclined 26-degrees over the tarmac, it is 520 metres long and 20 metres wide. With work beginning in 2016, the East Wing aims to improve the welcome of passengers on continental and intercontinental flights whilst meeting current standards. It will replace the temporary large aircraft hall which was built in 1975.

What are the tests for?

Genève Aéroport must carry out passenger experience tests, known as ORAT (Operational Readiness Airport Transfer) before the official opening of the East Wing on 14 December 2021. The goal is to prepare all the airport facilities to the point they are operational in their new working environment upon opening.

The airport is looking for over 1000 volunteers ready to participate in these tests on Thursday 11 November and/or 2 December. This will be the opportunity to be part of not just an historic moment for Genève Aéroport, but also to be one of the first to experience the interior of the new large-aircraft building!

Are you ready to play the role of a passenger? To walk a few kilometres? To present your (replica) boarding card a few times? If so, then this experience is for you! Anyone with a health pass can participate after registering. Children under 16 years old must be accompanied by an adult.
