Genève Aéroport is committed to mobility


Genève Aéroport will participate in European Mobility Week on Thursday 19 September. There will be information stands and entertainment all day. The goal is to promote the use of public transport and soft mobility to reach the airport.  

Are you interested in trying out an electric bike? Genève Aéroport proposes a free animation on Thursday during European Mobility Week. Representatives of Transports Publics Genevois (TPG) and Léman Express will also have information stands on the esplanade of the airport*, between 8:00 and 17:00. They will introduce the developments in public transport in the area and will answer any questions you may have regarding the future distribution network.

Genève Aéroport has been making an effort to reduce its impact on the environment and promote sustainable mobility for many years.  In 2018, 46% of its passengers used sustainable transport (public transport, buses, shuttles, trains) to travel to the airport, compared to 42% in 2017. It is therefore slightly ahead of its 2020 target of 45%. 

« The entry into service of the Léman Express planned for December will allow better access to the airport platform via the Cornavin train station. This liaison will encourage even more passengers to reach the airport by train », explains Emily Tombet, environment project leader.

Success of the Aérobus

Since last December, a new free morning bus service is available for passengers. Funded by Genève Aéroport, with the collaboration of Transports Publics Genevois (TPG), six Aérobus lines serve the airport from Geneva and neighbouring France from 03:00 to 06:00. In August 2019, 14’773 people used this service, compared to 11’322 in January.  

Furthermore, Genève Aéroport offers free public transport tickets to travellers landing in Geneva, which are valid for 80 minutes. In 2018, 2’925 free tickets were distributed every day.

Incentive to car sharing

Genève Aéroport has developed several projects over the last few years to encourage its staff to opt for soft mobility. In 2005, a shuttle service was set up for employees. This supplements the public transport on offer outside normal business hours, either in the morning or the evening. In 2018, 61’690 62’300 people used this system, which reduced CO2 emissions in a year by 26 tonnes. 

A new campaign intended for staff in favour of mobility was launched in September. In 2017, 38% of employees used a sustainable mode of transport. The goal is to reach 45% in 2020. 

« More than half the people who work at the airport live in areas that are poorly served by public transport. We develop appropriate solutions with this category of people in mind, such as for example incentive measures for car sharing », explains Emily Tombet.

Grants are also given to encourage employees to obtain a P+R subscription or a public transport pass.
