Geneva’s airport received the Airport of the Year 2020 award at the Air Transport Awards ceremony, an event organised by Air Transport News (ATN) in partnership with Hermes Air Transport.
The aim of the Air Transport Awards
is to recognise the quality and commitment of organisations and teams working in the aviation sector. In previous years, airports in Istanbul, Doha, Dubai, Changi (Singapore) and, in 2019, Lisbon, have received the award.
« We are highly honoured to receive this award, especially at this time of such profound crisis », remarked André Schneider, Genève Aéroport's General Manager. « This award is recognition both for ourselves, a medium-sized European airport, as well as for our efforts towards quality development, which includes economic, social and environmental aspects. »
This year, Genève Aéroport was also awarded a second prize, the ATN Corporate Award. In this category, the distinction was awarded in 2019 to Goldair Handling, one of the leading providers of ground handling services in Southern Europe.
The Air Transport Awards are among the very few « from the industry, to the industry » awards, and have been distributed since 2012 to reward the best companies and personalities contributing to the development of air transport anywhere in the world.
The awards ceremony took place in Athens on Friday 28 August 2020 during the 2020 Summer Aviation Forum.
