Genève Aéroport releases its annual report in digital form

24.03.2021

For the first time, Genève Aéroport has released its annual report in digital format. A collection of text, images and videos, it traces 2020, a year of course marked by the Covid-19 epidemic, but also the 100th anniversary celebrations. An interactive timeline looks back on the highlights of the last twelve months.

At Genève Aéroport, 2020 was off to a good start. To celebrate its hundredth year, the airport held an official ceremony in its old terminal. In the airport, entertainment punctuated the numerous passenger arrivals. The date was 28 February 2020, and it was time to celebrate. A few days later, the Federal Council would announce lockdown for the population due to the Covid-19 epidemic. Air traffic came to an abrupt stop, leaving Genève Aéroport almost deserted.

The 2020 annual report follows this unprecedented year, for the first time in digital form. A film and timeline take a look back at the key moments of the past twelve months, from the opportunity to relive the 100th anniversary celebrations that had to be cut short, to the medical flights organised during lockdown and the all-cargo flights carrying medical equipment on the tarmac. The report is also an opportunity to take stock of the airport’s projects and see the first images of the new East Wing and public terrace, which is soon to open.

Animated infographics illustrate the company’s key results, released on 16 February. To recap, in 2020, Genève Aéroport recorded a huge loss of 129.5 million CHF against a profit of 84.1 million CHF in 2019.

In 2020, air traffic ground to a halt. The airport welcomed 5,600,906 passengers: 68.8% less than in 2019. The total number of landings and take-offs fell by 53.6% to 86,354 movements.

Now, the airport is preparing for the long-awaited resumption of activities and air traffic. Its top priority: the safety and comfort of its passengers.
