Rehabilitation of the P26 car park: one year of work to consolidate the reinforced concrete structure

29.03.2019

The P26 car park will be reinforced and reorganised from April 2019 to June 2020. However, the car park will be available during the works, but its number of places will be reduced by maximum 500. Little impact on passengers. The inauguration of the new P26 is scheduled for July 2020.

These rehabilitation works will especially impact the 300 subscribers of Genève Aéroport, who will be redirected during the works to P41, P45 and P46 in order to favour the passengers’ access, considering the decrease in operation, evaluated at maximum 500 parking places. The number of places available for the ResaPark will drop and detours will be implemented. Therefore, Genève Aéroport recommends its passengers to pre-book their parking spaces.

The rehabilitation will be conducted in three steps. The first basement will be renovated from April to August 2019, the second from August to December 2019 and the third basement of the car park from January to May 2020.

Located under Hall 7, P26 - an underground car park of 1030 places - is particularly popular, because it serves at the same time the airport, the theatre of the Arena and the shopping arcades of the SBB railway station. Its users include visitors, passengers and subscribers.

Built by the Car Parks Foundation in 1992, the P26 was put into service in 1993. The Aéroport international de Genève is the owner since 2012. The car park has never been renovated since its commissioning. This is why in order to stop the phenomenon of premature aging of reinforced concrete, it is essential to strengthen its structure, to clean up the concrete and to optimise the evacuation of surface waters.

In parallel to ensuring the compliance of facilities and fire safety, electrical and lighting installations will also be modified, focusing in particular on significant energy savings. On the other hand, a general refresh of the car park, new signage and ground markings are also planned. This new car park will be inaugurated in July 2020.
