Genève Aéroport ran 8'400 km for the Geneva Red Cross

16.09.2016

On the night of 15 to 16 September, Genève Aéroport opened its track and its tarmac to the employees of the platform in order to participate in a sport event. Each of them had the purpose of being sponsored by third parties and make as many kilometres as possible in the race, by foot or bike, in order to donate the fruit of their sponsorship to the Geneva Red Cross.

From midnight and quarter that night up to 04:00 this morning, 733 employees of the platform of Genève Aéroport set off on the playground normally devolved to aircraft: all of the track and the tarmac. The goal? Cover in all at least 4'000 kilometres (1'000 times the length of the track) using the strength of the calf (running, walking), of the pinion (bike) or of the stick (nordic walking). To crown the athletic performance of a humanitarian performance, each participant was invited to be sponsored per kilometre. The funds so gathered will be donated to the Geneva Red Cross on behalf of Genève Aéroport. The participation of Genève Aéroport shall be added to this manna.

So that the amount intended for the disadvantaged people of the Canton of Geneva be as consistent as possible, Genève Aéroport surrounded itself by several sponsors (1) that allowed it to halve the total fees incurred with this event. This amount saved shall also be so fully given to the charity.

The evening began at around 09:00, with a concert of 9 Lives at the heart of the race village, located near the new noise absorber, followed by the performances of DJ Ellis and DJ Big Sean. Shortly before the first departure at 00:15, the Swiss elite runner, member of Team Genève, Tadesse Abraham, 7th place at the Marathon of the last Olympic Games, led the warm-up organised by SUVA. He then launched in the race in the company of the first runners.

The race thus continued until 04:00 a.m., to enable the Operations teams to give back the track and the tarmac their first vocations as soon as the opening of traffic: reception of aircraft.

Despite the uncertain weather, the event was a huge success. It helped employees of Genève Aéroport, as well as those of the platform to meet at their workplace in new circumstances, in a relaxed and festive atmosphere, helped by the seventy volunteers who contributed to make this event a success.

In addition, this sport event was an opportunity to recall, through the presence of Abraham Tadesse (member of the Team Genève), that Genève Aéroport supports Genevan athletes, as well as sports and cultural associations through its sponsorship activities.

A video of this event is available on our youtube channel as well as our social networks.

Organiser of this sport and charitable event, Genève Aéroport was financially supported by the following partners: Albinati Aéronautics, BTEE SA, Commerces de l'Aéroport, dnata, easyJet, Geneva Airpark, GFS, Holdener Architectures, ISS, Jet Aviation, MSC Aviation, Palexpo, Priora, Qatar Airways, RUAG, Saraco SA, SITA, skyguide, SUVA, SWISS, Swiss Canonica, Swissport, SZ Informatique, TAG Aviation and Valais Water that helped Genève Aéroport halve the costs of the event and further give them to the Geneva Red Cross.

They enabled it to divide by half the organisation fees, increasing accordingly the amounts donated to the Geneva Red Cross.
