In 2012, Genève Aéroport handled 13,899,422 passengers, or 5.86% more than in 2011. At the same time, the number of take-offs and landings increased by only 2.02%, for a total of 192,944 movements.
Air cargo volume remained stable at 46,320 tonnes, but the volume of trucked cargo rose (21,283 tonnes, an increase of 9.3%). In all, total cargo activities (including postal cargo) reached a record level of 74,737 tonnes, an increase of 2.77% since the previous year.
Once again, Genève Aéroport ends the year with better-than-anticipated results in terms of passenger traffic. These positive figures reflect the Geneva area’s dynamic situation as an industrial, economic, financial, political, diplomatic and tourist hub. They also confirm the relevance of the strategy the platform’s managers have pursued for several years now in terms of investment, market positioning and business model. Genève Aéroport’s attractiveness has opened new paths in recent years, the success of which has been more than proven.
The number of movements increased less rapidly than the number of passengers for two reasons. First, average carrying capacity has been increased by the use of larger aircraft on certain routes, and second, flights are tending to have higher occupancy rates.
The results in terms of turnover and profit for financial 2012 will be communicated at a later date.
