New absolute record for passenger traffic in 2006

After passing the nine million passengers mark in 2005, Geneva International Airport almost hit the ten million mark in 2006: with 9'962'994 passengers by the evening of 31 December, the Airport set a new absolute record for passenger visits, beating its previous (2005) record of 9'410'933.

It should be noted that the rise of 5.9% is higher than the expected 5% figure for average growth worldwide announced by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).

It is important to point out that this rise in passenger traffic came about even though the number of commercial aircraft movements (landings and take-offs) rose by only 0.9% - an encouraging result for the environment, and also for airline cost effectiveness, because it reflects higher aircraft load factors.
