Geneva International Airport announces:
While the preliminary statistics for passenger traffic published on 18 December 2003 by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) showed a worldwide fall in international air traffic of about 1%, Geneva International Airport notched up a rise of 6.1% in 2003 compared with 2002, with 8,088,469 passengers having used the airport (provisional figures).
That is an absolute record for passenger numbers, the previous one being 7,826,303 in 2000.
There were slightly fewer aircraft movements (a movement is one landing or one take-off), however, down on 2002 by 1.4%.
This remarkable result shows that Geneva International Airport’s policy of diversification of air services meant it was able to meet the expectations of its customer base throughout the region it serves - French-speaking Switzerland and neighbouring France.
