Geneva International Airport (GVA) has just been named as the winner of the Pan European Workplace Mobility Plan Award 2009 (European prize for corporate mobility). GVA was chosen from among nearly 50 participants in three different categories. The certificate awarded with the prize states that "the jury was impressed by the design and implementation of the mobility plan. The members of the jury particularly appreciated the spirit of innovation displayed by the GVA authorities with regard to the pricing and regulation of parking, and the targeted communication aimed at users of each means of transport.
In addition, on 15 May 2009, GVA was awarded the Prix Vélo (Cycle Prize) for bicycle-friendly companies, awarded by the Swiss Pro Velo association during the Neuchâtel mobility show. This time, the Airport was rewarded for having devised and implemented numerous measures to promote cycling. The measures are aimed primarily at GVA employees. A major effort is being made to extend this green mobility policy to other companies at the Airport and to all staff working on the site - more than 8'500 employees. Among the arsenal of measures taken by GVA, the jury appreciated the creation of an informal parking area especially suitable for fans of green mobility, particularly cyclists. It was also noted that the map of recommended routes for cyclists shows the gradient of the route, journey time and location of facilities for cyclists. An annual eco-mobility bonus is paid to GVA employees who choose walking or cycling as their main means of transport. In house, the company provides 13 company bicycles for business journeys.
