On Tuesday 16 December 2008, Geneva International Airport had the pleasure of checking in its eleven millionth passenger for the year - a new absolute record.
It may be recalled that GVA came close to crossing this symbolic bar in 2007, with 10,910,870 passengers. This year, despite the economic slowdown of recent months, which caused a drop in passenger numbers in recent weeks, traffic will nevertheless have risen by just over 6% since the beginning of the year.
This increase reflects the development of air services at GVA, since, for the current Winter timetable, there are direct flights to no less than 108 destinations, 81 of which are in Europe - an absolute record.
It may be noted finally that with its eleven millionth passenger, Geneva International Airport has welcomed more than 262 million air travellers since it opened to commercial traffic in 1922!
