Delta Airlines launches new Geneva-New York JFK route

Delta Airlines is launching a new daily service between Geneva and New York JFK from the 11th of April. This intercontinental connection will be operated via the East Wing, which is specially dedicated to this type of long-haul flight.

From April 11, Delta Air Lines will operate a direct service to New York JFK every weekday during the summer season with a Boeing 767-400ER aircraft with a capacity of 238 passengers. This opens up new connection possibilities, via Delta's JFK hub, to more than 65 destinations in North America.

Genève Aéroport thus further adds to its long-haul offer by improving intercontinental connectivity, a priority for the airport. This meets an essential need for international Geneva, the region's economy and tourism. The demand for tourism to Switzerland from the United States is expected to increase further, as it did last summer. The new route will therefore also benefit the region's tourism industry. Similarly, the diplomatic sector will have more flexibility and choice when holding international events in Geneva or New York.

The arrival of this new player operating transatlantic flights will boost the market to the United States, which has been relatively stagnant for the past 10 years. Currently, many passengers to and from the US choose to connect via other European airports. This additional direct link to the US makes sense in terms of comfort and efficiency.

On the way to the New York hub

Delta's model is based on serving a main hub, JFK airport, which attracts a majority of passengers to other US cities and even to North and South America. "This link is a proof of the attractivity of Genève Aéroport for intercontinental flights. We welcome the arrival of this new player, which offers a quality service in a very dynamic market", says André Schneider, CEO of Genève Aéroport.

Delta's arrival is also extremely positive for the cargo sector. The US is Switzerland's second largest trading partner, while trade in goods and services totalled an estimated 113.33 billion Swiss francs in 2019, according to the US Trade Representative. The new service provides cargo opportunities for freight forwarders to conveniently transport goods between the two continents.

Delta is a member of the SkyTeam alliance and all flights between Switzerland and the US will be operated in cooperation with Delta's joint venture partners Air France, KLM and Virgin Atlantic.

Delta’s flights between Geneva and New York-JFK will operate as follows:

Flight Departure Arrival Start Date Frequency
DL 100 New York at 20:45 Geneva at 10:50 ( next day) April 10 Daily
DL 99 Geneva at 12:50 New York at 15:25 April 11 Daily
