Introduction
Geneva International Airport created the Airport Security Service (SSA) in 1948. The SSA, which is now known as the Security Division, is one of the Airport's nine divisions.
It consists of:
- a headquarters;
- four operations sections;
- a surveillance section;
- a transmission section;
- a medical group (ambulance men, orderlies, nurses).
In response to a constant concern of passengers and in order to apply the strictest standards current in this domain, special attention is being paid to security. Consequently, the Airport security service (more than 160 strong) has to deal with many different tasks 24 hours a day:
- aircraft security (one-off or surveillance operations);
- fire-fighting;
- paramedical assistance;
- rescue in the event of a disaster;
- escorting vehicles on the tarmac (particularly for visiting diplomats);
- organisation of snow-clearance arrangements;
- surveillance of the Airport's service entrances.
