Objectives between now and 2013
Environmental objectives, which are fixed for a period of three years, are described together with the means to achieve them in a strategic document called the Environmental Plan. This is then broken down into yearly action plans.
Genève Aéroport is currently implementing the 2011 - 2013 environmental plan outlined below:
Environmental Management System (EMS)
- The integration of environmental elements will be underpinned by all activities and plans
- The environmental management system will operate according to the requirements of the ISO 14001:2004 standard, in conjunction with the integrated management system
- Local residents as well as employees and partners of Genève Aéroport will be better informed on environmental activities
Noise Abatement
- Revision of aircraft noise classification to take into account the anticipated evolution of technology
- Soundproofing of 600 dwellings in Switzerland beyond the boundaries currently considered (alarm threshold minus 2 dBA)
- Undertaking of soundproofing for 400 dwellings in Ferney-Voltaire, in neighbouring France, within the framework of the specific system created jointly with the local council's technical service department
- Development of a ground based noise mapping system for monitoring noise from the airport
- Improvement of the communication of the measures taken to limit noise, especially regarding the statistic and justification of extensions agreed by the airport for aircraft movements after 12:30am in the case of exceptional circumstances
Air Quality - Surface Access
- Reduction of exhaust emissions from vehicle operating on the airport
- Reduction of exhaust emissions from parked aircraft
- Participation in ACI Airport Carbon Accreditation scheme
- Increase of the rate of sustainable transport use by airport staff
- Increase of the rate of sustainable transport use by airport passengers
- Strengthened surface access to the airport by sustainable modes of transport
Energy Management
- Reduction of energy consumption by 10%
- Optimisation of energy costs
- Guarantee of highest quality energy supply
Water Management
- Implemantation of the conept to drain surface run-off water from te Vengeron catchment basin as part of the framework for general drainage of water from the airpot
Soil Protection
- Avoidance of soil contamination and mapping of pollution
- Achievement of a new soil monitoring campaign
Waste Management
- Strengthening, monitoring and optimisation of sorting of waste procedures ont he whole airport site
- Extension of the ''polluter pays'' principle on the whole airport site
Major Risk Prevention
- Enhancement of risk prevention in accordance with the ordinance on the prevention of major accidents (OPAM)
Natural Environment Protection
- Maintaining the quality of the airport landscape and its surrounding
- Control of the expansion of invasive plant species
