Objectives between now and 2010
Environmental objectives, which are fixed for a period of three years, are described together with the means to achieve them in a strategic document called the Environmental Plan. This is then broken down into yearly action plans.
Geneva International Airport (GVA) is currently implementing the 2008 - 2010 environmental plan outlined below:
Environmental Management System (EMS)
- The integration of the environmental component in GVA activities and projects has enhanced
- The Environmental Management System (EMS) of GVA has been certified to the standard ISO 14001:2004, in synergy with its Integrated Management System
Noise Abatement
- The aircraft classification for noise surcharge purposes has been updated
- The operational feasibility of a segmented approach through runway 23 has been reassessed
- Additional measures to restrict night-time movements have been followed up in an appropriate manner
- Environmental impact of light aircraft and helicopter traffic has been reduced
- A noise emissions mapping related to airport operation has been developed
- In Switzerland, the residential soundproofing programme is complete within the compulsory perimeter and has been systematically pursued within the voluntary perimeter
- In France (voluntary undertaking), the programme to support residential soundproofing is complete in the perimeter close to the airport
Air Quality - Surface Access
- Gaseous emissions from airport service vehicles have been restricted
- Emissions of fine particles from site machines have been restricted
- Implementation of the European model of gaseous emissions surcharge for air traffic (polluter pays principle) has been prepared
- The usage rate of sustainable modes of transport by airport personnel has been enhanced
- The usage rate of sustainable modes of transport by airline passengers has been enhanced
Energy Management
- Energy efficiency has been enhanced and CO2 emissions have been reduced
- An energy concept for the airport has been finalised
- The user has borne the real cost of energy according to the consumer pays principle
Water Management
- A water drainage concept is useable as part of the Drainage Master Plan (PGEE)
Soil Protection
- All significant soil pollution has been avoided
Waste Management
- Waste sorting at the airport has been strengthened
- GVA printing methods have been enhanced and paper consumption has been reduced
Major Risk Prevention
- Risk prevention has been enhanced in accordance with the ordinance on major accidents (OPAM)
Natural Environment Protection
- The landscape value of the airport site and its vicinity has been preserved in accordance with the landscape planning and management manual
